Improving public health, sanitation, and dignity in major cities in Bangladesh

Project Goal: To strengthen public sanitation services in Bangladesh through proper operation and maintenance of public toilets for ensuring basic facilities through improved basic WASH assistance services.

Project Location: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Zone-5, ward # 40 and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), Zone-01, Ward-01.

Financial Partner: WaterAid Bangladesh

Duration of the current project: April 2020 to May 2022

Target Beneficiary: Pedestrian’s men, women, children and disables of Dhaka South and Dhaka North City Corporation. Special attention has been accorded for adolescent’s girls, women and disables.

Project Brief: Due to rapid urbanization, movements of floating people have been increasing but facilities of public toilets are still very inadequate, causing another threat of public health and environmental pollution. To strengthening public sanitation services in Bangladesh Concerned Women for Family Development (CWFD) has been implementing “Improving public health, sanitation and dignity in major cities in Bangladesh” project in Dhaka South City Corporation and Dhaka North City Corporation to contribute the national goal and SDG – 6 related sustainable sanitation services through ensuring access to improve public sanitation for men, women, and differently abled people.

After successful completion of the Phase-1 (ICTIHDBPH project) CWFD is implementing “Improving public health, sanitation and major cities in Bangladesh ” Phase-II with the financial support from WaterAid Bangladesh in Dhaka South and North City Corporation.

Major Activities:

  • Regular Operation and Maintenance of public toilets

  • Ensure easy and safe access of public toilet for women and disabled

  • Awareness raising among the city dwellers

  • Ensure Safe drinking water supply

  • Coordination with Stakeholder

  • Capacity building of staff.
